TMS Emerging Topics Series: Monitoring and Reporting on Performance of Traffic Management Systems

Description
This webinar will focus on Monitoring and Reporting on Performance of Traffic Management Systems (TMS).
Performance monitoring, evaluation, and reporting is an essential task for TMS as they help determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the system. In order to provide useful performance information, it is important to define the subsystems, functions, actions, and services of a TMS that needs to be monitored, evaluated, and reported on. In addition, it is important to specify the scope of the TMS performance monitoring and reporting. These may include:
- TMS asset performance (e.g., number of system failures within a period of time, detector communication performance, etc.).
- Traffic impact performance (e.g., section travel times, section average speed, section throughput, etc.).
This webinar will be used to:
- Highlight key performance indicators that can be used to monitor, evaluate, and report on TMS performance considering which aspect of TMS performance (i.e., TMS assets performance or traffic impacts of TMS operations) is to be reported on.
- Identify challenges or issues associated with developing a successful performance measurement program; identifying, collecting, processing, and archiving required data needed for performance monitoring and reporting; developing insightful and understandable TMS performance indicators; and other technical/institutional challenges regarding TMS performance monitoring and reporting.
This webinar is part of the Traffic Management Center Pooled Fund Study project on providing periodic educational webinars to TMS Pooled Fund Study members.

Crash Responders Safety Week All States Planning

Description
The FHWA Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Program is pleased to host the Crash Responders Safety Week (CRSW) All-States Planning Webinar on September 23, 2026, from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. EDT. This webinar is targeted for communications and public information staff and TIM program managers from every national, state, and local responder community.
During this webinar, the FHWA TIM team will debut the 2026 CRSW theme and spotlight proven strategies that responder associations and governmental organizations can leverage to achieve our common goal and responsibility for safe, quick roadway clearance. The webinar will feature Wisconsin DOT’s successful initiatives for promoting CRSW, as well as an exercise in collaboration to better promote CRSW in 2026.
Every few seconds, a traffic incident responder puts his or her life on the line to aid crash victims and to safely and quickly clear crashes, as well as other traffic incidents that could otherwise result in a secondary crash. Every year traffic incident responders are killed in the line of duty or bear life-long scars from life-altering injuries.
CRSW affords a unique opportunity for every TIM community member to make a difference individually and jointly for roadway safety during traffic incidents. Traffic incident response is a collaborative effort engaging EMS, law enforcement, fire and rescue, public works, towing and recovery, transportation, and other disciplines. TIM communities across the nation can come together this CRSW, taking place November 2-6, 2026, by teaching each other and all road users about our common goal and responsibility for safe, quick roadway clearance.
